David's Christian Page
Hey, there.
This page is mostly aimed at providing arguments and evidence for the non-Christian, the Christian who may be struggling with what he or she believes, or those Christians who are interested in reaching out to others. These pages don't make much of an attempt to reach out to the hearts of others, but more to their heads, providing evidence and logical arguments for the existence of God and the validity of the Bible. If you want someone to reach out to your heart, Jesus can do that much better than I can.
My opinions may contradict what other Christians believe, but many of my arguments are also based on arguments given by a variety of Christian sources. I especially owe a debt of gratitude to the writings of Glenn Miller, J.P. Holding, Paul Maier, Grant R. Jeffrey, Lee Strobel, and Gerald Schroeder. Please feel free to borrow ideas or arguments of mine (since many of them were not mine to begin with), and also Contact Me if you have any questions or comments. I would love to hear from you!
Recent additions:
8/3/08 I know I haven't updated in a while, but I recently got a letter from someone trying to argue the parallels between Jesus, Dionysus and Horus. I offered him $1000 to give me any evidence, such as stories in which Dionysus and Horus actually do those things, in support of his claims. I decided to make this a general challenge to anyone who is trying to argue this kind of stuff. I made a page here.
Also, I've gotten a lot of letters asking about the "Zeitgeist" movie. I've only seen a portion of it, and can't take it seriously enough to bother with a response. But if you want to see some of the sites responding to it, go here: Debunkers Of The Zeitgeist Lie. I also came across a site offering $250 to anyone who can provide evidence for the claims made by "Zeitgeist" - that site is here: Zeitgeist Challenge
7/10/06 I'm doing some posting on the RationalResponders message boards. Come watch or join in! Though, careful, the website has some language and not-exactly-family-friendly images. But if you want to go to where I'm posting, just click on "forums", then click on "atheist vs. theist". I'm KingDavid8 on that board, of course.
6/22/06 I got a letter from a lady asking me about the evidence for Jesus' virgin birth. In the ensuing discussion, she brings up a few "Christ-Myther" claims of other pre-Christian figures who supposedly had "virgin births" and a few other issues. The discussion is at Letters/VirginBirth
6/10/06 Per the request of a visitor, I've written a response to another page questioning Jesus' existence, which is at YesJesusExisted. I also sent that site an E-mail asking them to back up some of their claims with evidence. They refused to provide any evidence, then apparently blocked my e-mails. I've put our conversation, including my second letter which they apparently never got, at Letters/LetterNoBeliefs.
4/23/06 An addition to the Copycat site, about the goddess Inanna. And by the way, I still haven't received a response from the guy claiming to have photographic evidence of heiroglpyhs of Horus walking on water and being called "Lord". You think maybe he was bluffing?
4/11/06 I received a letter from someone who claims that he's been to Egypt and took photos (presumably of Hieroglyphs) showing conclusively that pre-Christian deity Horus walked on water and was referred to as "Lord". I've asked to see these photos, and am still waiting for a response, which I will post if it ever comes. Our discussion so far is at Letters/HorusGlyphs
4/7/06 A wiccan named Pendragon has created a list of 142 questions for Christians. I post my answers to those questions at PendragonList.
11/20/05 The Letters/TakeCross discussion is back up, but with some small portions removed per Myron's request. It's also much longer since the discussion has been continuing.
11/12/05 The Letters/TakeCross discussion has been removed by request of Myron, the guy I was discussing it with.
10/22/05 The LiarsLunatics discussion is still going on, so there are new additions to that one.
9/9/05 I'm in a discussion with a non-believer on several issues, such as the Gospel authors' motivations, Paul's conversion, external references to the Gospel events, and Josephus (among others). The discussion so far is at Letters/LiarsLunatics
9/2/05 I've changed my E-mail address once again, so go to my Contact page if you want to send me a letter. If you've sent me anything in the past couple of months and I haven't responded, please contact me again. My old address was getting too much spam and in my efforts to slog through it, I might have missed your letter. All apologies.
3/12/05 I received a letter from an ex-Christian asking about my contradictions page and also about why God did cruel things in the OT when a quick miracle could have made things all better. Discussion at Letters/Contradictions
3/5/05 I made an update to my Copycat/Jesus vs. Prometheus page. A visitor informed me that I got the title of Aeschylus' play wrong (it was "Prometheus Bound", not "Prometheus Unbound" - oops!) and had a couple more "comparisons" for me to respond to, which I did.
1/23/05 I came across an interesting tidbit today. It seems that one of the world's foremost atheist philosophers, Antony Flew, and "icon and champion for unbelievers for decades" has now come to believe in God! Article here.
1/22/05 A few more letters/discussions have been
added to my site.
When Were The Gospels Written/What About
The Josephus Passages?
Is The "Copycat" label the best
one to use?
Is God evil for creating Lucifer/What
about Christian Universalism?
1/21/05 I got a letter from a guy named Clint which turns into a discussion about several points: Letter/WhatIsGod?
11/6/04 I wrote up a response to the website JesusNeverExisted.com. My response is at JesusExisted.html
10/19/04 The letter I mentioned on 10/14 about the error on my Copycat/JesusHorus page has turned into a longer discussion about Christ-Myth in general, which I've posted at Letters/LetterIsisSeth.
10/14/04 I received an E-mail from a guy named "Khiafin" who accuses me of being biased and not doing my homework when it comes to my Copycat pages. His letter and my response are at Letters/LetterBias. And another letter pointed out an error on my Copycat/JesusHorus page, which I've amended.
9/4/04 I heard from a non-believer asking if the few valid similarities between Jesus and pre-Christian deities are significant. That conversation is in Letters/JesusVs.
7/7/04 An update to my Copycat/JesusAesculapius page due to a visitor correcting some errors. Also, some of my links to external sites in my Copycat area weren't working, so I updated those I could and deleted links to pages that had disappeared altogether.
7/5/04 An update to my Copycat/JesusBuddha page due to a visitor pointing out to me that Buddha did not die of natural causes, but was poisoned.
3/17/04 I've heard from another follower of the Hindu religion who has some corrections and comments to my Copycat/JesusKrishna page, which I've added.
3/16/04 I'm in an E-mail discussion about whether the Jesus story is a myth, and if it was based on the Serapis story. The text is at Letters/JesusSerapis.
Another conversation with someone named "Tex" has to do with how literal the Bible should be taken. Tex also asked me to look at a page about whether Jesus existed, which I've written a response to.
I've also come across a site that I strongly recommend to believers and non-believers, from someone who, like me, is a former atheist and now a Christian. That site is www.ex-atheist.com.
