| WILL THE EARTH BE AROUND FOREVER? |
| Ecclesiastes 1:4 One generation passeth
away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
(KJV)
Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. II Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. (KJV)

| The phrase for 'pass away' in Matthew is 'parerchomai', which means to
be neglected or forgotten. Even a simple reading of this passage shows
us that Jesus is emphasizing the fact that His words are eternal while all
that is natural is temporary (note that 'Heaven' in this passage is
'ouranos', which refers to the sky, not the spiritual Heaven.).
The word used in 2 Peter is 'ge', which, according to Strong's, is 'contracted from a primary word; soil; by extension a region'. In other words, the soil will be burned, but the planet itself will remain. Not a contradiction. |
