| Arent there some striking parallels between the Jesus and Bel Merodach stories? |
| A.K.A. Marduk, Bel Merodach was the Mesopotamian god of thunderstorms
and a fertility god. According to a text known as the 'Enuma Elish'
(which dates to about 2000 years before Jesus), Bel Merodach defeated some
dragons and thus gained supreme power. He was believed to be the creator
of the universe and of mankind (whom he created by slaying Kingu, the champion
of chaos), a god of light and life, and the ruler of destinies. You
could certainly draw some minor parallels between him and the Judeo-Christian
God, but not Jesus Himself.
